I would say that my beliefs as a Christian can be summed up by using the ‘Apostle’s Creed’. I try to live my life according to these beliefs and depend upon my daily relationship with God (Father-Son-Holy Spirit) to work out life’s situations both positive and negative.

After making a decision for Christ (getting saved), I was involved in the following for many years:

Sunday School teacher – summer Christian camp counselor, developed and directed a counselor in training program – co-founded a puppet ministry

1989: I decided to go to Mexico for a short outreach based at a children’s home. I had planned to travel alone but ended up planning a trip for 10 other people (5 adults and 5 teens).

1990: I traveled with Compassion International to Guatemala to visit my sponsored child. I became a volunteer with Compassion International.

1991: I traveled to Guatemala to study Spanish and Guatemalan culture.

1993 & 1994: I traveled to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador to visit sponsored children as a volunteer with Compassion International.

1995: I traveled to Guatemala to visit sponsored children and was directed to a children’s home. I visited Casa Aleluya.

1996: I traveled to Guatemala to volunteer at Casa Aleluya and also planned this trip for 3 others.

Out of this work at this children’s home, I (along with the others) saw a need to bring some joy to the children and eventually to the workers at these homes. Their basic needs were being met but there was nothing for them beyond the basics.

So, Mission Fiesta was born so to speak.. We have large fiestas to celebrate everyone’s special day – their birthday. We also began providing items for missionaries not readily available to them (both needs and desires). We initially had 1 fiesta for 150 children plus staff. Mission Fiesta has now become Mission Fiesta Inc. and we had (June 2006) 14 fiestas for 1700 children plus staff.

I am the director of Mission Fiesta, Inc. and oversee all areas and do the planning for our trips. I just retired from public school teaching and am looking forward to expanding the work of Mission Fiesta as God leads.
